The Word, Winter 2007 Tour

client: Emcee Artist Management

scope: Poster & logo design

John Medeski, the North Mississippi Allstars and Robert Randolph formed The Word way back in 2000. After a critically acclaimed CD of jammy instrumental gospel tunes and a series of sold-out shows, the group went on hiatus. A long hiatus. In fact, we pretty much thought they were defunct.

That was until the day we were contacted to design limited edition silk-screened posters for a very special four-city "tour" at the end of 2007. The challenge was to create a design that encorporated colored papers and only two colors with minimal screens. The images you see at the right show the Mr. French paper color in the background and all four use a common white screen. The single darker color screen is unique to each. This method produced posters that kept printing costs to a minumum while keeping their big impact.

The logo, originally designed by David Bias in 2000 for the CD release was cleaned up and repurposed for a new run of merchandise sold at the four shows.
